About exhibition
The museum's halls tell about the natural riches of the region that became the basis for the life and development of ancient populations; the ancient and medieval history of Tatarstan; the Kazan region in the 16th–18th centuries and the Kazan Governorate in the 19th–early 20th centuries; and they also present the republic's history in the Soviet and contemporary periods. Among the most valuable exhibits are a zoomorphic axe of the 6th–4th centuries BC, the Abu-Bekr castle (1146–1147), the yarlyk (decree) of Khan Sahib-Giray (1523), the Efremovo Gospel (1606), Catherine II's carriage, memorial items of the Russian poet and statesman G. Derzhavin, the crystal seal of the prominent scholar and theologian Sh. Marjani, an English howitzer (1917), the banner commemorating the formation of the Tatar ASSR, a sketch of the Tatar ASSR coat of arms, a GAZ-A car (1935), a Fordson-Putilovets tractor and a Po-2 (U-2) aircraft.
