Exhibition of the A. Taho-Godi National Museum of the Republic of Dagestan

About exhibition

The museum's permanent exhibition, housed in 20 halls, unfolds a panorama of historical events on the territory of Dagestan in chronological order from the Stone Age to the present day. The oldest museum in Dagestan preserves unique exhibits that the world's most famous museums could be proud of: ritual sculpture (Bronze Age), weapons of great commanders (Tamerlane, Nader Shah, Napoleon, Shamil), the richest ethnographic collection of national clothing and jewelry of the peoples of Dagestan, the largest collection of awards of Imam Shamil's army, extremely rare examples of decorative and applied arts, and much more. Visitors will learn about the times when the Caucasus was the bed of the ancient Tethys Ocean and will become acquainted with archaeological artifacts from the period when the first people appeared on this land. Sections of the exhibition reflect the era of medieval Dagestan and the time of Nader Shah's invasion. Guests will examine the influence of the Great Silk Road on the cultural and economic development of the peoples of Dagestan. The largest part of the exhibition is devoted to the Caucasian War. The final part of the exhibition recounts the revolutionary events in Dagestan and the achievements in science, culture, industry, and agriculture of the republic during the Soviet years.
