About exhibition
One ticket entitles the holder to visit exhibitions in several buildings of the Kostroma Museum-Reserve – the Museum of Kostroma Nobility, the Art Museum, and the Military-Historical Museum. Moving through the halls of the latter, visitors will take a journey through pages of military history and at the same time explore the interiors of a house built in 1823–1826. Until the early 20th century the building was used to accommodate the main garrison guard and as a place of detention for arrested servicemen. Today the former guardhouse houses a military-historical exhibition comprising more than 1,000 exhibits, such as a 12th-century steel sword, a 15th-century pishchal (a type of hand cannon), and chain mail. The state rooms of the Museum of Kostroma Nobility, the ornate cast-iron staircase, and many interesting details and household items immerse visitors in the life of a 19th-century provincial town. Here is exhibited the best paintings by Yefim Vasilyevich Chestnyakov, clay works, documents, and the artist’s personal belongings. The single ticket is valid for one month after purchase.
