Exhibition of the Museum "Waterways of the North"

The "Waterways of the North" Museum is located in the engine hall of the first hydroelectric power station in Vytegra. Its exhibition tells the story of the ancient water-portage trade route linking the Volga and the Baltic Sea, the construction here of the Mariinsky Canal and the Volgo-Baltic Waterway that replaced it. Using maps and diagrams, visitors learn about the route's length and its natural and technical features, and see models of the locks and vessels used on the canal. Photographs allow visitors to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of bygone times and appreciate the ingenuity, hard work and dedication of the people who created this unique hydraulic structure.
