Exhibition of the Alexey Zel Glass Museum

About exhibition

On December 28, 2016, the Kaluga Museum of Fine Arts opened a new exhibition in one of the buildings of the federally protected architectural monument 'Gostiny Ryady' — the only Alexey Zel Glass Museum in Russia. The name of the Moscow artist who worked with quartz glass, unconventional for Russian and world glassmaking, has long been well known to lovers of applied art. The combination of the artist's talent and virtuoso craftsmanship in one person made it possible to create works without world equivalents. Alexey Zel's creations have been recognized by leading experts, and in 1993 he was awarded the title 'People's Artist of Russia'. From the simple 'Empire' candlesticks (1979) an entire series of works began, among which are pieces masterful in technique, such as the nine-branch candelabrum 'Latgalian' (1984), and complex artistically compositional works like 'Ryabinka' (1988), 'Grapes' (1988), and 'Holy Rus'' (1989).
