Exhibition of the Museum "Savior on the Spilled Blood"
About exhibition
The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood (the Church of the Resurrection of Christ) is a unique monument to Emperor Alexander II, built to the design of architect Alfred Alexandrovich Parland with the participation of Archimandrite Ignatius (Malyshev). The solemn consecration took place in the presence of Nicholas II on August 19, 1907. Its memorial purpose is recalled by the canopy erected over the spot where the emperor was wounded, with the original cobblestones of the paving and the canal railing preserved. From the exterior of the cathedral, this spot is marked by a mosaic depicting the Crucifixion of the Savior. Memorial granite plaques around the church façade commemorate the deeds of Alexander II. The Savior on Spilled Blood houses the largest collection of mosaics in Russia — over 7,000 square meters.
