Exhibition of the Museum of the Patriotic War of 1812
About exhibition
The modern history of the Museum of the Patriotic War of 1812 began in 2009, when a decree of the Government of the Russian Federation was issued for its construction. On September 4, 2012 it was officially opened in the former building of the Moscow City Duma, which until recently housed the V. I. Lenin Museum. The museum's collection includes household items and decorative and applied arts of the period, numismatic collections, paintings by V. V. Vereshchagin, D. Dow and other artists, and much more. Also on display are the silver casket containing Alexander I's certificate of gratitude to the Moscow nobility, presentation rings, snuffboxes and the award medals of participants in the Patriotic War of 1812. Of particular interest are items that belonged to the commanders of the 1812 campaign: M. I. Kutuzov's samovar, Field Marshal P. Kh. Wittgenstein's baton, and Napoleon Bonaparte's saber. The exhibition combines historical rarities, works of art and multimedia displays.
