"In Russian art, Shalyapin is an era, like Pushkin" (M. Gorky). The F. I. Shalyapin Music Museum is the first music-and-theatre museum in the Republic of Bashkortostan dedicated to a personality of world significance. It was on the Ufa stage in 1890 that the professional debut took place of the brilliant opera artist and singer who later conquered the world's greatest stages. Afterwards the artist celebrated his jubilees and important dates, counting the years spent on stage from those memorable Ufa tours. The F. I. Shalyapin Music Museum is intended to commemorate not only the name of the genius Russian singer. The showcases display musical instruments, manuscripts, rare sheet-music editions, and reminiscences of famous musicians, composers, and performers of the Republic of Bashkortostan. The museum's total collection already numbers over 900 unique exhibits, the majority of which date from the 19th to the early 20th century. The museum has five exhibition halls.
