M. Sespel Museum Exhibition
About exhibition
The museum building is the former house of the townsman S. Cherkasov; in 1921 the revolutionary committee of the Chuvash Autonomous Region (revkom) was located here. M. Kuzmin (Sespel) — the founder of modern Chuvash poetry, a statesman and public figure of the era of the global upheavals of the early 20th century — worked here. The pseudonym “Sespel” is symbolic for the poet: in translation it means “snowdrop,” the first spring flower that appears through the thaw. Visitors to the museum will learn about the poet’s life and work and will see a photo panorama of the city of Cheboksary from 1921, which depicts M. Sespel, the first head of the Chuvash Autonomous Region D. Elmen, and other representatives of Chuvash authorities. This unique photographic document allows one to notice a contrast of eras: the old part of the city, which fell within the flooding zone, can be compared with the 20th-century view of Cheboksary. Tickets can be purchased on the website.
