Exhibition of the Apollinary Vasnetsov Apartment Museum
About exhibition
The museum's permanent exhibition is located in the memorial apartment where the artist lived for the last 30 years of his life (1903–1933), and where he painted and prepared scholarly papers. The exhibition's collection contains the artist's personal belongings, paintings, and archives. Thanks to the preserved furnishings, the apartment conveys the atmosphere of life and everyday existence of Moscow's creative intelligentsia in the early 20th century. Creative evenings and friendly gatherings were often held here; visitors to Apollinary Mikhailovich frequently included well-known artists, actors, musicians, and scientists — K. A. Timiryazev, I. A. Bunin, V. A. Gilyarovsky, M. V. Nesterov, the artist's brother V. M. Vasnetsov, K. A. Korovin — and the singer F. I. Chaliapin performed in the living room more than once. Two parts of the museum's exhibition tell the story of the life and work of the Vasnetsov family. In three rooms of apartment No. 21, interiors of the early 20th century have been restored. The living room reveals the family's everyday life and their circle of friends and acquaintances. The study served as a space for the artist's scholarly pursuits and as a place for solitude and reflection. The home studio reflects the history of two eras at once — before and after the 1917 Revolution. Two other rooms of the apartment preserve the furnishings and atmosphere of the second half of the 20th century; their history is connected with the lives of the younger generation of the family — Vsevolod and Ekaterina Vasnetsov.
