Exhibition of the 'Apartment on Studenetsky Lane' Museum
About exhibition
The Mayakovskys' memorial apartment on Studenetsky Lane, which had been sealed and inaccessible to visitors for about half a century, opened its doors to the public for the first time in September 2019. Mayakovsky's eldest sister, Lyudmila, received this apartment at the end of 1927 from the Trekhgornaya Manufactory, where she had by that time worked for 17 years after taking a job there immediately after graduating from the Stroganov School. In 1972, according to her will, the apartment was transferred to the Mayakovsky Museum along with all its furnishings and household items. The apartment's interior has been restored based on surviving photographs and recollections of contemporaries. The rooms of the poet's mother, Aleksandra Alekseevna, and of the elder sister have been reconstructed. The room that belonged to sister Olga could not be restored due to the complete absence of historical evidence. It now hosts exhibitions, meetings, interactive programs, and discussion clubs.
