The name of Ivan Milyutin once became practically proverbial – across Russia there were hardly any other mayors who governed a city for so long and did so much for it. Ivan Andreyevich managed to transform the little-known provincial Cherepovets into the "Northern Athens" and the "Russian Oxford", an important transport hub and an industrial center. Thanks to the efforts of the city head, construction in Cherepovets expanded; new educational institutions, insurance companies and banks, libraries and a museum, hotels and commercial establishments were established. Today this house, now a museum, carefully preserves the memory of its first owner. The exhibition displays items that belonged to the famous owner and the furnishings of the rooms in which the city head lived and worked.
