Exhibition “Mologa – the Yaroslavl town of Kitezh”
About exhibition
The exhibition unites two exhibition sites located in the centre of Rybinsk within walking distance of each other: the Museum of the Mologa Region and the model of Mologa. The exhibition is devoted to the history and culture of the town of Mologa and the Mologa district of Yaroslavl Region, which were resettled and flooded at the turn of the 1930s–1940s during the construction of the Rybinsk hydroelectric complex. The Museum of the Mologa Region displays numerous photographs, documents and objects that reveal the dramatic history of the so‑called Yaroslavl town of Kitezh. The central exhibit of the Mologa model is a historical and architectural model at a scale of 1:100, recreating the appearance of the former town as it was in the early 20th century. Also shown are newsreel footage from the 1930s about the construction of the Rybinsk hydroelectric complex, video and audio recordings of accounts by elderly former residents of Mologa who were resettled, and the documentary animated film "Sea‑Home" (2021, dir. Andrey Pershin), dedicated to the resettlement and flooding of the Mologa region.
