Exhibition of the Leonid Sobinov Memorial House-Museum
About exhibition
The exhibition includes memorial rooms as well as halls dedicated to Leonid Sobinov’s creative work at various stages of his life. Visitors can see personal belongings, stage costumes and posters, photographs, fragments of correspondence and, of course, the artist’s musical recordings. The museum is housed in an old mansion built at the end of the 18th century that belonged to several generations of the Sobinov family. It was in this house that Sobinov was born on June 7 (May 26, Old Style), 1872, and he lived here until finishing gymnasium in 1890. According to his father’s will, the house passed to all the children after his death. Wanting to preserve the family home, Leonid Sobinov, with the consent of all his brothers and sisters, bought out their inherited shares and became the sole owner of the family estate in 1917. Later, when he came to Yaroslavl on tour, he stayed here.
