Exhibition of the L. N. Tolstoy Memorial House-Museum in Khamovniki

About exhibition

Tolstoy purchased the house, along with the outbuildings on a one-hectare plot, in the summer of 1882 from collegiate secretary Ivan Arnautov. The writer spent nineteen winters in Khamovniki — from 1882 to 1901. Over its more than century-long history, the memorial museum in Khamovniki has welcomed numerous visitors and, over the years, has carefully preserved its cozy garden, estate buildings, and numerous relics. The museum preserves more than five thousand items — authentic witnesses of the era that “remember” the writer, his family and close friends. For people of the 21st century, the Tolstoy estate is truly unique.
