Exhibition of the Anvar Adzhiev Memorial House-Museum
About exhibition
The memorial house-museum of Dagestan's people's poet Anvar Adzhiev is the house the poet built. He lived there from 1950 until his death. The enchantor of Kumyk poetry wrote his best works here. The museum's exhibition displays photographs, documents, Anvar Adzhiev's personal belongings, his library, manuscripts, and the writing desk at which he worked for more than 20 years. Visitors on the guided tour will learn, in chronological order, about the life and work of this outstanding poet, his circle, and his family. A rich collection tells the story of Anvar's genealogy and his childhood and youth. A special place in the museum is occupied by the section "The Poet in the Years of War." Almost every Dagestani family sent a father, son, or daughter to the front during the Great Patriotic War; two of Anvar's brothers went to the war. The poet's star rose during the war years, when several of his poetry collections were published in the Kumyk language: "The Offensive" (Наступление), "Sabres" (Сабли), and "What the Don Told" (О чем рассказал Дон), as well as a book of translations of his works into Russian — "Song of the Kumyk Valleys" (Песня кумыкских долин). During the war, Anvar Adzhiev's poems dedicated to the heroes of the war became very popular and were sung to the accompaniment of the agach-kumuz. The poet's library occupies a prominent place among the museum's exhibits.
