Exhibition 'Lyubertsy — Distant and Close'
About exhibition
The Lyubertsy Local History Museum invites you to learn about the history of the ancient world, the nature of the Lyubertsy region, the history of the city of Lyubertsy during the Great Patriotic War (1941–1945), the lives of ordinary Lyubertsy residents and well-known political figures of the 1950s–1970s, and peasant and merchant life of the 17th–19th centuries. Find out how Lyubertsy changed its name, learn about space explorers and the world’s first cosmonaut Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin, who studied in the city, and much more by purchasing an admission ticket to the first-floor exhibitions. The first-floor displays present the historical, natural, and cultural development of the Lyubertsy urban district, rich in history and heritage. All unique archaeological finds, works of art and craft, documents, and interior items that record the historical events that took place in this area can be examined in detail and photographed. From the exhibition you will learn: which wild animals inhabited the territory that later became Lyubertsy; what the Vyatichi — who settled the area in the 12th century — looked like; how trade arose along the Lyuberka River, which led to the settlement’s transformation into a major trading center and to its becoming an important stop on the road to Moscow; why Peter I visited Lyubertsy; how the cold-weapons factory was built; how Kutuzov retreated along the old Ryazan Road (today — Oktyabrsky Prospekt); and what the Tarutino maneuver is famous for.
