Exhibition of the Rasul Gamzatov Literary Museum

About exhibition

The museum dedicated to Rasul Gamzatov is located in the poet's office in the historic building of the Union of Writers of Dagestan, which was built before the Revolution. Rasul Gamzatov served as chairman of the board of the Union of Writers of Dagestan for 52 years. The museum houses more than 300 unique photographs of the poet, showing Rasul Gamzatov at different periods of his life, from his youth to the time he achieved worldwide fame and renown: family archives, photos with colleagues and friends, with prominent state and public figures of the country and the world, with cultural and artistic figures of the USSR and foreign countries, including legendary world leaders such as Fidel Castro, Ernesto Che Guevara, Indira Gandhi and many others. A separate display case is devoted to the poet's awards, prizes and honorary titles. Visitors can see Rasul Gamzatov's personal belongings, including his inkwell and typewriter, manuscripts, and Gamzatov's books in his native Avar language and translations into the languages of various peoples around the world. The exhibition also displays personal items and photographs of the founders of modern Dagestani literature — Gamzat Tsadasa, Suleyman Stalsky, Abutalib Gafurov, and Effendi Kapiyev. The photographs collected here can be used to study the history of the Union of Writers of Dagestan and the long path the writers' organization of the republic has traveled over its 85 years of existence.
