Exhibition of G. M. Krzhizhanovsky's Apartment
About exhibition
A unique opportunity to visit a luxurious early-20th-century apartment. From 1919 the academician and scientist G. M. Krzhizhanovsky lived and worked here. See authentic Art Nouveau interiors, the remarkably preserved furnishings of the house, tiled stoves and a unique library — experience the atmosphere of the scientific intelligentsia of the early 20th century. Today the mansion houses two permanent exhibitions revealing the history of Moscow’s Zamoskvorechye district, Balchug Island and its main thoroughfare — Sadovnicheskaya Street. Here you can see old scenic postcards and maps of the city, learn from documentary footage how the nearby streets looked a century ago, and admire an 1850s panorama that gives an idea of the city’s layout after the 1812 fire. Zamoskvorechye of the 19th–early 20th centuries is presented on an interactive touchscreen map. On the second floor next to the memorial apartment there is a display of collectible televisions and radios. Here you can see equipment produced from the early 1930s to the late 1980s.
