Exhibition 'Beauty and Usefulness: Decorative and Applied Arts of the Tver Region'
About exhibition
The exhibition tells the story of the crafts for which the Tver Governorate was renowned. Embroidered towels, carved ladles, spinning wheels, and folk costumes created by local masters and craftswomen several generations ago — all of this will astonish visitors with its beauty and uniqueness and remind them that the Tver Governorate is the birthplace of rare and even unique crafts: Torzhok gold embroidery, Kalyazin lace-making, Tver block printing, and icon painting. On the museum's ground floor you can see the interior of an icon painter's house from the late 19th–early 20th century — the workshop and the living quarters. A modern multimedia projection reproduces some stages of the master's work on an icon, and the collection of objects gives a full picture of the living and working conditions of the craftsman. Replicas of unique antique items are provided for close, detailed examination.
