Exhibition "From the History of Yaroslavl Medicine"
About exhibition
The exhibition covers all the main periods in the development of local medicine. The stage of accumulating medical knowledge from antiquity to the 17th century is shown through topics of folk healers and treatment of diseases in monasteries. In the 18th–early 20th centuries, pharmacies and hospitals appeared in the city. The display includes century-old medical instruments: a scarificator, stethoscope, surgical hook, drill, and a pocket medical kit. Also shown are opera glasses, perfume bottles on special stands, and a camera that were sold in pharmacy shops of that time. Soviet-period medicine is represented by health propaganda materials, personal belongings of surgeons who participated in the Great Patriotic War, photographs from evacuation hospitals, photographic documents on the history of Yaroslavl medical educational institutions, and inventions by Yaroslavl doctors in the fields of otolaryngology and traumatology.
