Exhibition 'From the History of Yaroslavl Medicine'
About exhibition
The exhibition covers all major periods in the development of local medicine. The stage of accumulating medical knowledge from antiquity to the 17th century is shown through topics of folk healers and the treatment of illnesses in monasteries. In the 18th to the early 20th centuries, pharmacies and hospitals appeared in the city. The exhibition displays century-old medical instruments: a scarificator, a stethoscope, a surgical hook, a drill, and a pocket medical kit. Also shown are an opera glass, perfume bottles on special stands, and a camera that were sold in apothecary shops of that time. Soviet-period medicine is represented by health propaganda materials, personal items of surgeons who participated in the Great Patriotic War, photographs from evacuation hospitals, photo documents on the history of Yaroslavl Medical College and Yaroslavl Medical University, and inventions by Yaroslavl physicians in the fields of otolaryngology and traumatology.
