Exhibition of the Friedrichsburg Gates Historical and Cultural Center
About exhibition
The exhibition of the Friedrichsburg Gates is dedicated to Peter the Great, the founder of the Russian navy, and presents the personality of Russia's first emperor as well as the development of shipbuilding in the country. It houses models of ships from the Petrine era, navigational instruments and historic shipbuilding tools. On screens visitors can watch films about the history of the Russian navy. One of the halls recreates Peter the Great's study, displaying items that tell about the people the young emperor associated with and about his interests in collecting and medicine. In the year of his 350th anniversary the Friedrichsburg Gates became the base of the 'Peter Center' — a project designed to link several museum venues along a Petrine route. Also on the museum complex grounds is the Lodeiny Dvor (Boatyard), created as part of an extensive program to preserve and promote Russia's maritime heritage. Here visitors can see examples of traditional vessels from different regions of the country and the world.
