Exhibition 'History of Novgorod and the Novgorod Land from the Earliest Times to the End of the 17th Century'
About exhibition
The Novgorod Museum's collection is exemplary. The creation of one of Russia's finest historical exhibitions was made possible by the systematic archaeological study of Novgorod, begun in 1932 and continuing to the present day. On the basis of these collections, a historical and archaeological exhibition was opened in 1975. Household objects made of ceramics, metal and wood, bone items, costume elements of leather and fabric, examples of weaponry and means of transport, and musical instruments, combined with documentary, seal (sphragistic) and numismatic material, provide a vivid and accurate picture of medieval Novgorod. Many exhibits (above all, birch-bark letters) are unique. Their quantity and diversity cannot be seen anywhere else.
