Exhibition "History of the Meshchansky District"
About exhibition
The exhibition introduces visitors to the main periods in the life of the Meshchansky District, shows how its boundaries were formed since the establishment of the Meshchanskaya police precinct, and vividly presents the picture of the modern district, which includes such streets as part of Kuznetsky Most, Neglinnaya, Sretenka and Prospekt Mira. The exhibition features a large collection from the funds of the Museum of Moscow and the Shchusev Museum of Architecture: unique reproductions depicting the Sukharev Tower, as well as projects for its preservation and photographs from the 1890s–1930s. A separate chapter in the history of the Meshchansky District and the Sukharev Tower is linked to the local market that appeared on the square in front of the tower after the Patriotic War of 1812.
