Exhibition 'History and Nature of the Native Land'

About exhibition

The historical exhibition includes museum objects, documents and photographs that illustrate the development of the region from the earliest times. These materials were obtained during the museum's archaeological and ethnographic expeditions, as well as donated by local residents. The exhibition is arranged in chronological order, beginning with the oldest epochs. Separate sections are devoted to the most important events and phenomena in the history of the Kurgan Region: the settlement of the land by Stone Age people, the material culture and worldview of ancient peoples, the first Russian settlements, life in the Trans-Ural village, trades and crafts, the railway and the industrial development of the territory. A separate section comprises exhibits related to the Great Patriotic War. In the nature hall, the exhibition is dedicated to the natural communities of the Kurgan Region and the animals that inhabit them. Some of the region's most characteristic and memorable inhabitants are presented in the diorama 'Seasons': Siberian roe deer, white hare, capercaillies, lynxes, wild boar. Each subsequent part of the exhibition reveals a particular landscape typical for the region and introduces the animals of small-leaved pole forests, pine forests, steppe areas, meadows, rivers and lakes. Special attention is paid to the problem of protecting Trans-Ural nature. The exhibition features birds and animals listed in the Red Data Book: the Russian desman, Dalmatian pelican, Savi's warbler, white-tailed eagle, black-winged stilt, great grey shrike and others.
