Exhibition "The History of the City of Novorossiysk"

About exhibition

An introduction to the city's history begins in the archaeology hall, where museum visitors encounter intriguing artifacts that reveal the traditions and national characteristics of the peoples who inhabited the Novorossiysk area at different times. One notable exhibit, the burial of a lame chieftain from the 6th century AD, attracts the attention of both younger and older visitors. The city's founding and its economic development in the mid-19th to early-20th centuries are presented through photographs, household items, and ethnographic objects from that period. Among the exhibits reflecting the dramatic events of the Civil War are items recovered from the sites where ships of the Black Sea Fleet were scuttled in Novorossiysk Bay on June 18, 1918. The period of the struggle for Novorossiysk during the Great Patriotic War is vividly depicted in the diorama triptych "The Liberation of Novorossiysk from the Nazi Invaders, 1943." The exhibition also covers the years of the city's postwar restoration; here you can see photographs of volunteer restoration work and views of the rebuilt Novorossiysk. In the hall dedicated to contemporary Novorossiysk, visitors can view gifts the city received from foreign delegations during official and friendly visits.
