Exhibition of the N. D. Bartram Art and Pedagogical Toy Museum

About exhibition

The Toy Museum was founded in Moscow in 1918. Its founder was artist, collector and museum figure N. D. Bartram. He began assembling his collection in the 1910s. Bartram remained at the head of the museum until his death in 1931. At that time the museum was transferred from Moscow to Zagorsk (now Sergiev Posad). Since 1980 the institution has been housed in an old mansion of the former commercial school overlooking Kelarsky Pond. The collection includes artifacts of children's culture from the Alexander Palace in Tsarskoye Selo, the Livadia Palace, and the S. G. Stroganov Art School, as well as items from nationalized private collections and specialized shops. In addition, the collection of Russian folk toys is broadly represented. The unique collection of Soviet factory-produced toys presents not only the history of industrial production in the USSR but also the history of the country as a whole.
