Exhibition of the N. D. Bartram Art and Pedagogical Toy Museum
About exhibition
The Toy Museum was founded in Moscow in 1918. Its founder was artist, collector and museum figure N. D. Bartram. He began assembling his collection in the early 1910s. N. D. Bartram remained at the head of the museum until his death in 1931. In 1931 the museum was moved from Moscow to the town of Zagorsk (now Sergiev Posad). Since 1980 the institution has been housed in an old mansion of the former commercial school above Kelarsky Pond. The collection includes artifacts of children's culture from the Alexander Palace in Tsarskoye Selo, the Livadia Palace, and the Stroganov School of Applied Arts, as well as items from nationalized private collections and specialized shops. In addition, there is an extensive collection of Russian folk toys. The unique assemblage of Soviet industrially produced toys acquaints visitors not only with the history of toy production in the USSR, but also with the country's history as a whole.
