About exhibition
The exhibition is devoted to one of the most important periods in the history of the Northern Region in the 16th–17th centuries. It was a time of the formation and consolidation of a centralized state, spiritual quests, the emergence of a distinct identity and the growth of national consciousness among the Russian people. The exhibition presents the economic and domestic way of life of the northern village, introduces the development of salt production, maritime and other traditional trades, the northern settlers' exploration of Siberia, and the role of the parish church in the life of the peasant community. The museum hall displays unique relics: the first dated printed book in Russia, the "Apostle", wedding crowns, fishing trade implements, rare wooden calendars, and much more.
