“Depth” Exhibition and Aquariums

The “Depth” exhibition, housed in the museum’s storage building, presents collections of barometers, current meters, hydrophysical probes, instruments and equipment for underwater filming, devices for studying depths and optical properties, deep‑sea technology and much more. The main exhibits are the manned deep‑sea submersible Mir‑1 and one of the largest sperm whale skeletons in the world. A visit answers questions such as how the depth of the ocean can be measured, which vehicles are needed for descents, whether there is life at the greatest depths, and many others. Visitors can also enjoy exciting film screenings. The aquarium exhibition in the Blue Hall of the main building consists of 14 marine and freshwater aquariums with a total volume of 16,250 L on an area of 160.4 sq. m. In the technical corridor there are 15 quarantine tanks with a combined volume of 3,400 L on an area of 57.8 sq. m. The number of inhabitants in the aquariums is about 300 specimens.
