Today the museum has a substantial collection and a high-tech exhibition; it is a dynamically developing forum for discussion, scientific-educational work and outreach, where current issues of Russia’s present and recent past are debated. The museum is currently one of the largest centers for the preservation, study and presentation of the nation’s cultural and historical heritage from the mid-19th century to the present. The exhibition created at the museum, “Russia in the 21st Century: Challenges of the Times and Development Priorities,” became the first museum presentation of national history from 1985 to the present and has no analogue in other Russian museums.
