Exhibition of the Feodosia Literary and Memorial Museum of A. S. Grin
About exhibition
The Alexander Grin Museum in Feodosia is one of the gems of Crimea. It was opened on July 9, 1970, in the house where the writer lived from 1924 to 1929. The small single-storey house has preserved the memorial quality of its walls but received an unusual design that embodies the romantic spirit of Grin's work. Only one room — A. S. Grin's study — has been restored to the state it was in during the writer's lifetime. The house itself, by the will and imagination of the museum's creators, was transformed into a symbolic sailing ship with room-cabins bearing resonant names: 'Hold of the Frigate', 'Cabin of Voyages', 'Clipper Room', 'Rostral Room', 'Captain's Cabin'. The exhibition walls are decorated with dark wood and sisal rope; alongside photographs, engravings and manuscripts are models of sailing ships, antique nautical instruments and maps, ship rostra, and ocean shells. The severity of taste, impeccable proportions and the complete absence of signs of everyday life preserve in the museum an untarnished state of spiritual uplift. Here one feels happy, as if returned to a childhood time of dreams. Everyone approaching the museum from the sea is greeted by the decorative-art panel on the building's façade, “Brigantine” — a harbinger of the bright and kind Grin world so necessary to people.
