Exhibition of the Fedorov Geological Museum

About exhibition

The museum was founded in 1894 by the outstanding Russian scientist Evgraf Stepanovich Fedorov, known as a genius of crystallography. It housed materials on the geological structure of the district, as well as the results of exploration work — reports, notes, cores, and thin sections. Today the museum carefully preserves the spirit of 19th-century geologists. Among its exhibits are a two-arshin cartographic table, mineralogical cabinets and furniture commissioned by Fedorov. There is also an extensive mineralogical collection. Visitors can see a fireproof archive room, a comprehensive library, a laboratory, and a mineralogical hall. These spaces reveal the fascinating history of geological science.
