Exhibition «The Palace of Count Pyotr Borisovich Sheremetev in the Kuskovo Estate»
About exhibition
Visitors will see the original wooden building of the 18th century, intended for formal receptions in the summer. Built of wood in the traditions of Russian architecture, it has two levels – the main (ceremonial) floor and a mezzanine – on a high stone plinth, which housed wine cellars and utility rooms. This is a rare example of a country house that has completely preserved its original architectural and spatial layout, as well as authentic interior elements: plank floors, stoves and fireplaces, decorative painting, wood carving and papier-mâché mouldings, mirrors and lighting fixtures. The façade is adorned with three columned porticoes. The pediment of the central one is decorated with rich wood carving around a monogram beneath a count's coronet. A staircase of white stone and gently sloping ramps for carriage access lead to the palace's main entrance. The ramps are decorated with figures of sphinxes – fantastic creatures with women's heads and lion bodies. The palace retains original interiors, furniture, paintings and ceiling murals. The last Wednesday of each month is a sanitary (maintenance) day.
