The house of merchant Stepan Alexandrovich Vagin is an example of a mid-19th-century urban estate. It was built to a standard prototype design in the Neoclassical style. The building stood on the corner of the market square and helped form the center of the Borisoglebskaya Side. The house has two facades: one faces Lunacharsky Street (formerly Rybinskaya), the other—the main facade, marked by a mezzanine—faces Romanovskaya Street. A distinctive feature of the building is its stepped façade; in this respect it can be called a house defined by a single detail despite the overall typicality of the structure. Today this merchant house houses the exhibitions of the museum and exhibition complex "Borisoglebskaya Side." On the second floor are the living rooms of the merchant family; on the first floor are the entrance hall and a shop. The house of merchant Sergei Alexandrovich Vagin is a museum where visitors are introduced to the everyday life and customs of the modest Romanovo-Borisoglebsk merchant class.
