Exhibition of the V. A. Rusanov House Museum
About exhibition
The museum is housed in a wooden one-story building with a mezzanine — a cultural heritage site dating from the second half of the 19th century, located in Oryol's old merchant quarter. V. A. Rusanov spent his childhood and youth here, studying at the Oryol gymnasium and later the seminary. He returned here after his foreign trips and northern voyages. The museum pays considerable attention to Rusanov's polar expeditions and their scientific and practical significance. Five expeditions to Novaya Zemlya (1907–1911) made it possible to produce accurate, detailed maps of this northern archipelago and contributed to its incorporation into Russia. During his 1912 expedition to Spitsbergen, Rusanov searched for ore deposits and placed 28 claim stakes marking coal. Visit the V. A. Rusanov House Museum with friends — it may turn out to be unexpectedly interesting!
