Exhibition of the House‑Museum of L. V. Laptsuya, E. G. Susoy and V. T. Podshibyakin

About exhibition

A two‑apartment house was built in 1980, reflecting the era of typical elite wooden construction of the Far North. The owners were well‑known people of Yamal who had different professions but were united by the common values of their time and fate. The first apartment was home to members of the creative intelligentsia — the married couple Leonid Vasilievich Laptsuya, a member of the Union of Soviet Writers and an Honored Cultural Worker of the RSFSR, and Elena Grigoryevna Susoy, an Honorary Citizen of Yamal and an Honored School Teacher of the RSFSR. The second apartment housed the family of Vasily Tikhonovich Podshibyakin, a participant in the discovery of unique gas deposits in Western Siberia, a Hero of Socialist Labour and an Honored Geologist of the Russian Federation. In 1994 E. G. Susoy created the Leonid Laptsuya museum‑apartment in her part of the house, which became the start of the site's museification. Since August 2021 the apartments have formed a single exhibition space, and the building was granted the status of a cultural heritage site (a monument of history and culture of regional significance). The house‑museum has been carefully restored by specialists in accordance with regulatory requirements for such objects. Major repairs began in 2022. Under the supervision of the service for the protection of cultural heritage sites of the Yamalo‑Nenets Autonomous Okrug, builders completed the restoration works, preserving the house's appearance familiar to longtime residents from the 1980s. Inside, the owners' memorial rooms were restored and new areas were created — a cinema hall and an exhibition space that can be transformed into creative laboratories and lecture rooms.
