Exhibition 'The House of Peter Alexeyevich Kropotkin'
About exhibition
Built in 1896-1898 as the town estate of Count M.A. Olsufiev, the leader of the nobility of Dmitrovsky Uyezd. In May 1918, at Olsufiev's invitation, the world-famous scientist, traveler and theorist of anarchism Prince Peter Alexeyevich Kropotkin moved into the house with his wife. In 1921 a commemorative plaque made by the noted monumental sculptor S.D. Merkurov was placed on the façade. Since September 2014 an exhibition dedicated to P.A. Kropotkin has been located here. In four rooms on the first floor photographs, documents, drawings, maps, letters and books have been collected that tell of his family, education, travels, scientific expeditions, revolutionary activities and the decades of enforced emigration of P.A. Kropotkin. Special attention is paid to his life and activities in Dmitrov. The second floor houses a small natural-history 'retro-museum' — a reconstruction of the original local-history exhibition of the Dmitrov Region Museum, in creating which P.A. Kropotkin took part. Also on display is an extensive and strikingly diverse private collection of minerals and fossils.
