Exhibition "House-Museum of the Stoletovs"

About exhibition

The exhibition is located in the wing of the house that belonged to the Stoletov family — a merchant dynasty of the city of Vladimir. In the 19th century three members of the family made their mark on Russia's military and scientific history. General of the Infantry Nikolai Grigoryevich Stoletov commanded the militia that liberated Bulgaria from Ottoman rule during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–1878. Dmitry Grigoryevich was a Major-General of Artillery and took part in the Serbo-Turkish War of 1876 and the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–1878. Alexander Grigoryevich was a professor at Imperial Moscow University and a researcher of ferromagnetism and the photoelectric effect. The exhibition immerses visitors in the atmosphere of a family that loved its children and gave them the most important thing — a passion for knowledge, science, and progress. Among the exhibits are interior items from a city estate at the turn of the 19th–20th centuries, scientific instruments from A. G. Stoletov's university laboratory, awards and weapons from the Russo-Turkish War period, and personal belongings of the Stoletovs.
