Exhibition of Decorative and Applied Arts of the Petrovsky Cultural Center
About exhibition
The exhibition presents a rich palette of the national culture of the Republic of Karelia, embodied in works by Karelian masters of decorative and applied arts. Everyone is invited to learn about the everyday life of the peoples of Karelia from the mid-19th to the early 20th century, and about traditional male and female crafts: weaving, embroidery, goldwork, ceramics, woodcarving and painting, folk dolls, birch-bark weaving and more. Visitors will discover how, living in the harsh conditions of the north and borderlands, people used to give artistic form to the simplest household items, from a wooden spoon to a costume, and how local artisans today carefully preserve and enhance this beauty.
