Grand Palace Exhibition
About exhibition
In the halls of the Grand Palace there is an exhibition that tells the story of the concept and twenty years of construction of the Tsaritsyno palace ensemble, which was conceived as Catherine II’s suburban entertainment residence. In addition to documents, artifacts, 3D reconstructions of the lost Tsaritsyno and large spectacular panoramas, the new exhibition employs media formats that are unconventional for museum projects. On display are engravings and documents, painted portraits, furniture, porcelain, weapons, numismatics and everyday objects of the period from the collections of the Tsaritsyno Museum. The exhibition narrates the journey of Princess Sophia Augusta Frederica of Anhalt‑Zerbst to the Russian throne and her 34‑year reign. Many items are on display for the first time. The children's museum is located inside the adult museum, and everything in it is presented in a universal children's language: paintings come to life as cartoons, engravings become a computer game or a virtual atelier, and visitors can move magnetic pieces in four‑player European chess.
