Visiting the Makhovaya Tower involves a self-guided tour of the museum exhibitions "Strelets' World" and "Fortress of Faith". Visitors will see authentic items from the 17th–18th centuries and historical reconstructions that illustrate how the streltsy service was organized and the daily life of Smolensk's 17th-century defenders. The "Strelets' World" exhibition on the second tier of the tower focuses on urban crafts and trade, the status of women and their activities, child-rearing, and culinary habits. The "Fortress of Faith" exhibition on the third tier presents monuments of Orthodox culture from the 15th–18th centuries, examples of decorative and applied arts, details of icon covers, pectoral and chest crosses, and other artifacts from private collections and the museum's holdings.
