The Tower on Fox Hill is a regional architectural monument and an integral part of Nizhny Tagil's historic landscape. The new museum's exhibition tells the history of the tower and the various ways it has been used over almost two centuries: as a guard tower, as an observatory, as a fire watchtower, and even as a monument to the love between N. N. Demidov and E. A. Stroganova (Demidova). The landscape with the hill topped by the small tower has long attracted artists' attention. The exhibition presents depictions of it from both the 19th and 20th centuries, drawings, optical instruments, and books of meteorological observations in Nizhny Tagil published in Paris in the mid-19th century. Also of interest are materials on Nizhny Tagil's fire service in the "pre-telephone era," as well as portraits of N. N. Demidov—whose name is associated with much in the city—and his wife E. A. Stroganova (Demidova). The key exhibit is a 360-degree panorama of Nizhny Tagil from the 1880s, created from photographs in the museum-reserve's collection.
