Exhibition "Babinov Road"

About exhibition

The exhibition is an engaging reconstruction of the famous route from Central Russia to Siberia in the 17th–early 18th centuries, the route that led to the founding of the town of Verkhoturye. Following the improvised road, visitors can learn about travelers and scholars whose journeys passed through Verkhoturye along the Babinov Road, see the natural landmarks of the Verkhoturye area, and become acquainted with the culture and everyday life of the indigenous peoples of the Urals, including Mansi mythology. The exhibition displays items that scientists might have taken on expeditions (powder flasks, books, inkwells, maps, and more); objects related to the daily life and cult of the Mansi people (birch-bark utensils, a cradle, Mansi children's toys, clothing, skis, arrows, a firearm, fishing gear, nets, etc.); and archaeological artifacts (zoomorphic plaques, bird-shaped idols, arrowheads, pottery fragments). The exhibition is equipped with audio accompaniment.
