Exhibition "Architecture of the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery"
About exhibition
Near the Strelka — the legendary cradle of the thousand-year-old city — lies the protected precinct of the former men's Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery. More than 500 years ago the oldest of Yaroslavl's surviving stone buildings rose above the marshy riverbanks. On the grounds of the Yaroslavl Museum-Reserve visitors can see the Transfiguration Cathedral, the Holy Gates, the Refectory Chamber, and the Belfry (lower tier). The present-day life of the architectural ensemble of the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery is the result of several generations of restorers. They returned the monuments to their original appearance after numerous reconstructions in the 18th–19th centuries and the destructive White Guard uprising of 1918.
