About exhibition
The museum tells the story of key events in Russian history, changes of political regimes, wars, revolutions and reforms. The museum buildings are two architectural monuments of the Art Nouveau era, the mansions of Matilda Kshesinskaya and Vasily Brant. The museum presents the following exhibitions: "The Individual and Power in Russia in the 19th–21st Centuries" – devoted to relations between the individual and the state at turning points in Russian history. "Revolution in Russia. 1917–1922" – covers the February Revolution, the October armed insurrection and the Civil War. The memorial rooms recreate Lenin's study, where he worked in Kshesinskaya's mansion in 1917. "Matilda Kshesinskaya. Fouetté of Fate" – reflects the life and work of the famous ballerina. "The Empire on the Road to Modernization. Russia in the 19th – early 20th centuries" – tells of the abolition of serfdom, the rise of parliamentarism, and the development of the labor and revolutionary movements.
