Bright. Abashevo toy.

About exhibition

A craft from the Penza region originating in the village of Abashevo. It emerged at the end of the 18th — beginning of the 19th century, due to the fact that potters' wares were no longer purchased in the same quantities as before. This craft and the master Larina Zotkina were introduced to the public by the actor, director and toy collector Nikolai Mikhailovich Tseretelli. Features of the craft: The first toy makers were men. Standard motifs, but an unconventional presentation. For example: deer-tree or deer-sun, gorodovoy, pava. Such names, by the way, only appeared in the 20th century; originally they did not exist, although the toys did. Mostly these are whistles and they are very large, often on four legs. There are only two holes, meaning they are indeed whistles. The toys are painted in a single base color without additional color schemes, and details or appliqués are decorated with gold or silver paint.
