V. G. Rykhlov-Pravdin. Portrait of Marshal Ivan Konev
Vladislav Rykhlov-Pravdin painted this formal portrait of Marshal Ivan Konev in 1946, almost immediately after the Victory. The commander is shown full length in dress uniform with orders and medals; on his chest are two Hero of the Soviet Union stars.
Ivan Stepanovich Konev (1897–1973) was made a Marshal of the Soviet Union on 20 February 1944. From May 1944 until the end of the war he commanded the 1st Ukrainian Front, whose troops took part in the Vistula–Oder, Berlin and Prague operations and liberated Prague. Konev was twice a Hero of the Soviet Union and a holder of the Order of Victory.
The marshal stands on a terrace with a stone balustrade; behind him are a heavy red curtain with tassels, a column and a broad view of a city under a cloudy sky. The picture is painted in oil on canvas. In 2026 the museum included it in the exhibition "Golden Stars", devoted to the commanders of the Great Patriotic War.
