Andrei Rozanov. Fair on Arbat Square
Andrei Petrovich Rozanov's genre painting "Fair on Arbat Square" was painted in Moscow in 1877. Its subject is a fair on one of the old squares in the centre of the city.
The square inherited its name from the Arbat Gate of the White City. The wall of the White City was pulled down in the 1770s, but the gate itself was dismantled only in 1792, and the square took shape in its place. At the beginning of the 19th century the Prechistensky and Nikitsky boulevards began to be laid out on both sides of it. The picture is painted in oil on canvas.
